I’m writing this from my kitchen table, as my office is too hot to think in and my children have come home from school early, due to the extreme heat. I have a fan pointed directly at me and I feel as though I will never be cool again (even though I will be, by Monday at the latest). The heatwave has made me think about sunscreen and about how weird it is that something which I see as a straightforward good (more sunscreen, less skin cancer, although, OK, also more vitamin D deficiency) has ended up as the main character in a seemingly never-ending online argument about whether sunscreen is brilliant, or poison.

If you enjoyed reading this, please forward it to a friend or colleague who might like it too. Growing an audience will turn Well. Done. into a community and make it easier for me to afford to keep writing it. Thanks.
